There are many, many publications out there that offer an abundance of information about how good dance is for us, but it can be hard to find a dance class to suit us as life, and birth, takes its toll, and that, is why Labeada® has been born..

Wye Valley Dance and Wellbeing is head office for Labeada®, a new dance class designed for those of us who may identify as, slightly low in confidence, maybe over-weight, menopausal, peri/postmenopausal or, post child birth, retired or anything else that could hinder the ability to join high impact dance classes. But all are welcome to join regardless of age or characteristics.

‘Labeada®  is martial dance infused with belly, bhangra, and freestyle disco’

Low impact for fun and fitness

The back story

I have danced from a very young age, I would even go so far to say, in the words of T. REX – I danced out of the womb! Here I am in the early 80’s, with my mum and the local mayor, collecting my first certificate, and from there I never stopped dancing, training with NATD to gain my teaching qualifications before a combination of bullying from other dancers, getting shin flints and moving abroad drove me away from the love of my life, but I continued to dip my toes in various classes over the years, not quite recovering from the confidence bashing of my peers in my late teens, and then of course taking on a suited identity, it almost seemed impossible to peel back the layers.. but I new that I needed to return to my true love, and so in 2023 I refreshed my training with a Level 2 Exercise to Music course, trademarked Labeada®, and worked towards making it happen.

Over the years, I have pushed women into following their dreams, reiterated that 50 is not too late to change career paths, healed my own confidence, and accepted that my new older body needed a new kind of dance. Inspired by the inspirational quote ‘Do not regret growing older; it is a privilege denied to many’ as we all learn as we live, and lose.

I also practiced martial arts, in many forms over the years, and as this too, could not be done as it used to be, and so I designed the Labeada®  model to incorporate martial dance, whilst infusing it with the sensuality and spirituality of belly and bhangra, with a little classic freestyle disco fun!

My experience and understanding of business v barriers to traditional employment, means that Labeada® is the perfect franchise to help those with lived experience of the ailments we cater for, to be fully supported in generating their own income via teaching dance.. more information on the Labeada®  website.

My father. Here we are in 1991, I was 15, had just finished a dance presentation (with the mean girls!), but he was so proud. I didn’t realise, until I lost him in 2022, and looked back on this picture, how much he loved me, just as I was. I spent so many years of my adult life wanting to make him proud. Pushing myself academically to achieve a law degree so that he could see me graduate, pushing myself to conform and behave in a way that I felt he would approve of, but then it hit me after he died, he just wanted me to be happy, and he was already proud, so in his honor I am living what is left of my life, true to my spirit, and I hope to help you do the same…
